Two Athlone architecture projects are among the 55 projects on the shortlist for this year’s Irish Architecture Awards, which was recently announced by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI). The projects are the Engineering and Informatics building in Athlone Institute of Technology, designed by McCullough Mulvin Architects; and the Athlone Army Memorial, designed by Keith Williams Architects. The Simon Community and the RIAI have teamed up to provide a one hour architecture consultation in return for a donation of €75 to the charity. The event is to take place on Saturday March 7. Five architecture practices in Mayo are taking part in the fundraiser: Axo Architects, Cox Power and Associates, Mark Stephens, McGann Scahill and Studio Plus Two Architects.

Westport housing project shortlisted for prestigious medal

The shortlist for the prestigious RIAI Silver Medal for Housing was announced this week and includes Cluain Padraig Housing in Westport. Designed by Galway based architecture practice, Simon J Kelly and Partners, Cluain Padraig is one of five housing projects shortlisted for the Biennial Silver Medal, the RIAI’s premier housing award which encourages and celebrates excellence of design in housing.
